💡Industry Insights - An OT Special with Barry Mainz💡

A few weeks ago, we sat down with technology veteran, Barry Mainz, to discuss his journey from ForeScout customer to CEO.

In this episode, Barry talked more on the cyber war against criminals and what individuals can do to address the issue. Check out his key takeaways below! 👇

  • There are currently 14 billion IOT/OT in companies and critical infrastructure. By 2030, it’s projected to have increased to 25 billion, and, in turn, increase the attack surface significantly.

  • Typically, the number of people managing OT systems doesn’t go up in proportion to the number of devices, causing a significant challenge for the operator. With the projected increase over the next few years, we need to be prepared for a much bigger problem in the near future.

  • Different technology, such as Forescout, can identify what assets can be deemed as a potential risk, and provide some control over these threats.

🔓Survival Tips for BlackHat 2024🔓

With just a few days to go until BlackHat USA 2024, we’ve put together a list of some of our top tips for surviving the conference and making the most out of your trip!

📝 Preparation is King! 📝

Conferences are a great way to network with like-minded people and build relationships that make eventually become pivotal in your career. Rather than just showing up and hoping for the best, it’s good to plan ahead. Reach out to connections on LinkedIn, or use useful tools such as Crunchbase to research companies and individuals attending the conference. Try to book meetings with people you know you want to meet, and explore different events at the conference that add value to you or your company.

🥾These Boots Are Made for Walking… 🥾

Make sure to pack your Apple Watch, some comfy trainers and a week’s supply of Compeed Blister plasters…

There is tons of walking involved at BlackHat, whether it be bouncing from event to event, navigating the conference halls or zipping between booths and training sessions. Packing comfortable shoes is so important as your step count is going to be at an all time high, so in the words of Nancy Sinatra, “these boots are made for walkin’, and that’s just what they’ll do!”.

💬 Network, Network, Network! 💬

Networking is one of the biggest highlights of a conference. People from all across the industry typically attend these conferences, which gives you unlimited opportunities to connect with cyber professionals. The conversations you have have the potential to be pivotal in your career or business, but it’s important to remember not to just focus on what you can get, but focus on what you can give. Relationships are built on mutual trust and respect, so give first and help where you can.

 🎁 Swag Galore! 🎁

If you’re flying in, we’d seriously suggest you consider purchasing extra baggage for your flight home! 🛫

If you’re a big fan of freebies (who isn’t?!), then you’ll love the conference floor. With tons of swag ranging from pens to plushies, there is always something worth taking home, plus it can be a great way to spark a conversation with an interesting vendor. Why not swing by our suite and collect one of Aspiron Search’s Swag Bags? 😉
